“It is easy to forget now, how effervescent and free we all felt that summer.” – Anna Godbersen, Bright Young Things
If you have no idea what 80 days of summer is all about, then where have you been!? Don’t worry you can catch up here. But basically for 80 days, I am going to make sure I do something every single day that makes the most of summer, some things will be new some won’t. This challenge is to show that life is really made for living, no excuses, no wasting days! Just happiness every single day!
“It’s all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.” Philip Green
I am the worse person in the world when it comes to family, my family isn’t a close family and we never have been. We aren’t the kind of family that talk daily, in fact, we can go months without talking and that’s always the way its been. I would say it has been a good three months since I spoke to my dad or grandad which I am sure sounds awful to most but its just the way we are. Also, I have no aunts or cousins so it is literally 8 of us including my sisters boyfriend.
So after no contact for the last three months, I thought I would take the men in my life out for a day at the seaside. Which believe me comes with problems, my grandad has become pretty poorly in the last few months and now requires someone watching him around the clock, which has become my dad. Who is also extremely ill, which is the part that makes me a bad child and daughter.
So having a rare day off work, which didn’t end up being a day off, I got called into work that evening, I decided to take my men to Southport for the day, Southport was one of our favourite spots when we were children so always holds a special place in all our hearts.
One of the things I want to get out of doing this challenge is spending more days like this with my family, I am aware we will never be a close family and that’s ok, families come in all shapes and sizes. We all know that we would be there for each other at a drop of a hat or when the shit hit the fan, we just don’t do the “normal” everyday family stuff. But I do want to make more of an effort to spend a little more time with each other, even if its just once a month rather than every three months.
When I tell people that know my brother that he is the funniest person in the world, they never believe me. He is so extremely quiet and prefers to be in the shadows (just a little different to me then) but he is sooooooo funny! He has the driest sense of humor of anyone I have ever met! When we are together he has me laughing non-stop, I wish he was like that with others but I also like that it’s like our secret!
“A brother is someone who knows there’s something wrong even when you have the biggest smile on your face.”
My brother has been there for me throughout every bad patch, every time I’ve cried, he really is the best brother in the world, he is the kindest man I have ever met. I could never imagine not having him in my life, I would be a bigger mess if it wasn’t for him always being there! I literally could rant for hours about how wonderful he is!
Ice cream life chose me!
